In Their Own Story

Here, it is revealed that the inhabitants were subjected to experiments following the discovery of Kos's corpse by Byrgenwerth scholars. Maria's defeat leads the player to the shore where they face the Orphan of Kos. Killing this boss releases the spirit bound to Kos's corpse and ends the curse of the Hunter's Nightmare.
